Octavia Butler is an African American science fiction author who was born in Pasadena, California and described herself as “… an oil and water combination of ambition, laziness, insecurity, certainty, and drive.” Octavia’s lived June 22, 1947 – February 24, 2006. She was an amazing writer with an extreme creative vision. Having over 26 books to her credit, one of the many awesome books was her 1993 book Parable of the Sower, featuring a hyper-emphatic black teenager named Lauren Oya Olamina living in the 2020s in a society largely collapsed due to climate change, growing wealth inequality, and corporate greed.
