Editor of the Memphis Free Speech Ida B. Wells was born in 1862 and died in 1931. She was the daughter of Native American father and a Black/African mom. Her father was a carpenter and her mom was a cook.

Ida led a crusade against lynchings in Memphis and the South. In 1892 while editor of the Memphis Free Speech she wrote of the lynching of 3 Black business men. After that letter her newspaper office was destroyed and her life threatened.
